Tips about How to Remove Stains on Your Carpet

All the stains on a carpet can be removed by using household ingredients, however, some carpet stain may require a professional to remove them. In this post, I will talk about a few techniques to remove the stains on carpet caused by several ingredients such as adhesive, alcohol and many others. So let’s see how to remove stains on your carpet.

Acetone

It is the main ingredient found in most non-oil based fingernail polishes and removers. This substance tends to evaporate quickly and can dissolve acetate fibers. This solvent is capable of penetrating the carpet backing and may cause the carpet to come unglued.

To deal with it, make a solution of 1 teaspoon of liquid hand soap with 1 cup of water and pat it onto the spill and then blot with a clean towel.

Adhesive Residue

To remove an adhesive residue or tape from carpet, try using rubbing alcohol to loosen the adhesive. If this does not work, try a commercial remover such as VeryDirtyCarpets.

Alcohol

To remove alcohol stain of a caret, soak the area with cold water and blot with a white towel.

Asphalt (Driveway Sealer, Creosote, & Tar)

This substance needs to be removed when fresh or it will yellow and remove protective coatings from the fibers.

To remove it, make sure the area is well ventilated. For small areas of stain on the carpet, put a small amount of a non-flammable dry cleaning fluid on a white towel and pat it onto the area to be cleaned. Keep in mind that pouring the cleaning fluid directly on the carpet can remove any latex glue that is holding the carpet backing together. Next, blot with a mixture of 1 scant teaspoon of liquid hand dishwashing soap for each cup of lukewarm water. Pat this mixture onto the stained area with a clean towel and place the layers of white paper towels onto the stained area and put weights on it for the rest of the night. This process will pull the residue and dampness into the paper placed towels.

Battery Acid

Sprinkle the baking soda immediately until the fizzing stops and remove it carefully. It will clean the stain, but the permanent fading effect may occur.

BHT Yellowing

Butylated Hydroxy-Toluene is preserving substance that is utilized in re-bond pad and bread which leaves a yellow mark. You can apply a solution of 10% citric acid which is easily available at the drugstores and leave overnight and vacuum in the morning.
